ボランティアが殺害 author : TK 2007/04/26 フィリピンで活動をしていたアメリカのピースコー・ボランティア（平和部隊）が数日間行方不明になっており、ついに最悪の結果となって発見されたらしい。 　○現地ニュース：『Missing US peace corps volunteer found dead.』 　Government forces on Wednesday morning found the body of US Peace Corps volunteer Julia Campbell who had been reported missing since last week in Ifugao province, military officials reported. 　"(The) dead body of Julia Campbell (was) found by Army troops in Barangay Battad, Banaue at 10:30 this morning," said Maclang, citing sketchy reports from the ground troops. "There are no details available (yet)," he added. 　"She was found buried with her feet protruding from the ground," said Maclang, adding that more government forces have been sent to the area to extricate the remains of Campbell who authorities said was last seen last April 8. US peace corps volunteer（アメリカ平和部隊）とは、日本でいう青年海外協力隊と同じで、元ケネディ大統領が作ったボランティアである。そもそも青年海外協力隊は、US peace corpsを参考にして（真似して）日本政府が作ったものである。 活動中も同じ配属先機関にJustinというUS peace corpsがいた。 一緒に活動をしたり、共に遊んだりしたものだ。 そんな身近だったUS peace corpsが活動任期中に殺された、なんだか他人事には思えない。 しかも、この現場とされている、北ルソンのバナウェという地には旅行で訪れたことがある。世界遺産に指定されているライステラスがある、とってものどかで平和な地域だったのになぁ。彼女の任地も別の地域だということから、おそらく北ルソン地方を旅していたのだろう。見る者を圧巻させる棚田のあぜ道でトラブルに巻き込まれたのだろう。あんな奥地で事件に遭い放置されたら何日も何週間も発見されないだろうな。 US Peace Corpsのウェブサイトでも、大きく取り扱われている → コチラ。 フィリピンのためにボランティアとしてアメリカから赴任していたUS peace corpsが、フィリピン人に殺害されたとなると、国際問題にも発展しかねない事態になりそうだ。 　○現地ニュース：『Campbell's death will not stop deployment of US volunteers』 　US Embassy spokesman Matthew Lussenhop said the US Government is not pulling out its remaining peace corps volunteers in the Philippines merely because of the "terrible tragedy." 　 　"Absolutely not, no pullout," said Lussenhop, who was among those who welcomed two military helicopters that transported Campbell's remains to Camp Crame where the remains would be subjected to autopsy. 　 　Lussenhop also said the relations of the Philippines and US would not be strained by the incident.
